But when you plant yourself next to the buffet table or hors-d’oeuvre station, your risk of overeating skyrockets. “It’s like watching TV with a bag of chips in your lap — you keep grabbing for food regardless of whether you’re actually hungry or not,” says Susan Kleiner, PhD, R.D., author of The Powerfood Nutrition Plan. The fact that most holiday offerings are chock full of empty calories only makes the situation worse. “Work the room instead of sampling and re-sampling every dish in the buffet,” says Kleiner. “That’s the point of going to a party anyway — to socialize.”

You've heard us say hundreds of times how important it is to drink plenty of water. That's because we can't say it enough! If you want to lose weight, you need to drink water. If you exercise, you need to drink water. If you want healthy skin, you need to drink water. Your body is comprised of 70% water (and your brain is 90% water!). Your blood and every cell in your body are made almost entirely from water. Knowing is half the battle, right? We recommend drinking half your body weight, in ounces of water, every day. So, if you weigh 180 pounds, divide that by 2. Your magic number would be 90. That's 90 ounces of water every day, a little more than 2.5 liters.

Back to My Origins

I am standing right now in the living room of the house I grew up in. It is my first trip to Brazil in 5 years! It doesn’t matter how long I stay away from my childhood home, every time I came here, it seems I’ve never left.
The great thing besides seeing my family, is the opportunity to bring my teenager daughter with me. I want her to be proud of her Mom’s humble but delightful beginnings.
We arrived here yesterday and we were welcomed by 6 members of my family. Some of them took the day off work, a second car was brought so we could accomodate our luggages, etc. It was humbling and sweet to see all the steps created so Juliana and I could be picked up from the airport.
We had a sweet time enjoying ourselves and eating my Mom’s delicious foods.
I have to watch myself!

After a long day yesterday, today I started it fresh with a workout that brought me back to my beginnings in fitness. I’ve been workout at home with DVDs for a long time (since the late 80’s), but it was in 2005 that I found a program that changed my life:. Turbo Jam!

I remember how I felt after doing Turbo Jam for the first time and this morning, doing this program in my childhood home, brought me back that same feeling.

I am so glad I could make my decision quickly. I didn’t need to bring all my DVDs because I can access everything online. Thanks to Beachbody on Demand, that since it started in March 2015,  I was able to make my trip home and be able to access the entire Beachbody Iibrary through my computer, phone, or tablet.

What a great way to start my 6 weeks stay in Brazil.

Happy New (Half of the) Year! NEVER GIVE UP!

NEVER GIVE UPThe first day of the month of July is coming up tomorrow, and it means we will be moving into the second half of the year. Can you believe it? The year of 2015 is almost half over!
Unfortunately it is also the time we start reviewing our goals from the beginning of the year and we realize that we are still way off target.

OffTargetDo you have any of your New Year’s Eve goals that you gave up or totally forgot about them? It is ok if you had them! And even if you feel disappointed that you didn’t accomplish them, now it is the time to renew them or set a new list of goals all together. God give us new beginnings everyday, and we need to look back, learn from our mistakes, and move on to our new life and dreams.

If you want to end 2015 successfully, now it is the perfect time to get started!
I had to learn in a hard way in the past, that my life wouldn’t change if I kept doing the same things  that got me in trouble in the first place.
Think about this: opportunities won’t just fall into your lap until you change the way you think. When you change your mindset and face that some areas of your life won’t improve without you taking action, your life will change.

I want to encourage you to think about the next half of the year. Pray about what you want to accomplish and set yourself to win. You maybe sad that you wasted half of the year by doing things that didn’t move you forward, and that’s ok! But instead of feeling sad and sorry for yourself, focus on your future!

 What can you start doing today to keep you focused and moving forward towards your goals? What do you need to do to be motivated?
Accountability?
Prayer?
New Skills?
Encouragement?

Ask for help and move on!
